Shall I let you in on a little secret? I obsess about Christmas Stockings. And not just in December – almost all year round!
I have one that I LOVE. I have always wanted to have matching stockings hung at Christmas. Sadly, I don’t have the pattern for my stocking or the knowledge of how to knit. I don’t know anyone who can knit.
When we first got married we bought a red and green matching stocking, but didn’t get any that matched for kids. For the past few years they have been using them. I hate them. I want 4 matching stockings. I want knitted. I obsess about how I want the whole thing to look hanging on my not mantel.
Two years ago my beloved Aunt gave hers to me. Now I only need 2 more. Jason doesn’t love them, but I’m sure that’s because it’s red… I’m more than willing to have his be green or blue… I just need them to be matching!!!
I have found stockings that I like online and ones that I like in Christmas Stocking knitting books (http://www.amazon.com/Christmas-Stockings-Holiday-Treasures-Knit/dp/1931499004) , but again the whole who’s gonna knit it thing comes up. Plus, I don’t want to spend a fortune on a stocking. $100 per stocking is too much for me. I don’t know how to afford 4 custom stockings.
There are lots of cute quilted ones that I might consider if I wasn’t so set on the whole matching thing. I can’t stop obsessing. I wake up in the night and think about this issue and how I’m going to solve it. It began before I was married (many years before) and now I can’t shut my brain off. I’m thinking I might need to seek out medication for this problem…
So, what are you obsessing about?

I was nodding my head while I read your post. Matching stockings and matching stocking holders is my idea of contentment.
Right now the kids all have matching ones, Santa's in the same pattern, just different colors.
Before we had kids I would agonize over whether I should buy a large quantity of stockings if I found ones I liked. I never did.
I thought I would jinx myself or something.
Also, we have no mantle either, mine are hung on the support beam with care. :)
I bought new matching stockings for the family Christmas 2003. When I bought them we only had 3 kids. I picked up another one 'just in case'. I got pregnant with Savanna the next month. It's a good thing there isn't another 'just in case' or I might be obsessing too. :)
I like your new topper and background. Very cute!
Well I used to stress about stacking too. Then one year I just went and bought those cheap ones at the dollar store while waiting for the perfect one to pop up some where. Well I bought some puff paint and let the boys go to town decorating their stocking. Wala a new tradition was born. We have tried to buy them new cheapies every year and they create their own. Wasteful I know because we don't re-use them but it is fun all the same. We also have the old un-matching stand-bys for when we don't get the chance to do this tho.
I would love to see your knitted one it sounds wonderful.
You are not alone in your obsession! I too have a stocking problem. When we were first married we had Disney stocking (I know BIG shock). They have the heads of various characters on them. Then I bought some new ones from the Disney Store with our names on them and 1 extra in case. I outgrew them and bought 4 fuzzy ones a few years ago. I want the knitted kind my Mom bought when I was about 14- maybe I could steal them- do you think she would notice? You might want to look at places like Maceys and Dillards- they tend to have things like that for reasonable prices. Wow- this is a long comment! Love your background and header (thanks for the advice on that!). I need to come over for some training!
Matching stockings don't bother me much. However, we DO have stockings for every member of our family including the dog, the cat and one for all the fish. We also get one for any visitors we have at Christmas time, and the stockings stay here incase the person visits at Christmas again. We have hung 12 stockings on our bannister (as we don't have even a pretend mantel) at one time, for our family of three.
As to what I am obsessing about, right now it is a white, poet-sleeved blouse. You know the BIG puffy long sleeves that end in a cuff and look really cute under vests? Well, I want one. I used to own one I had it for many years and wore it out. Do you think I can find another one? Well, actually i can, but I am not willing to spend over $100 one one. (AKK!) Beedle the Bard aside I don't drop that kind of money on things like shirts!
