Oquirrh Mountian Temple Experience

On Wednesday Lynene told us that they would be placing the Angel Moroni Statue and spire on top of the Oquirrh Mountain Temple today at 7:30 a.m. I planned on being there. I forgot.
My friend Shannon called my cell around 10 a.m. and asked me "Have you been here all this time?" I was like "Been where?"

Shannon: "Aren't you here at the Temple?"

Me: "OH NO!! I forgot all about it!!!"

Shannon: "They are running behind schedule. They just got the spire on, and the statue will come next. If you leave now, you should make it."

Me: "Thanks! Kids - get in the car NOW!!!"

When we got there 10 minutes later (or less), they still hadn't put the statue up. Mitchell and Bailey met us at the beginning of the sidewalk and walked the rest of the way up the hill with us. I thanked Shannon again for being kind enough to call me. She had been there since 7:15 a.m. We walked over to the gate and saw the statue still on the truck.

This is what the Temple looked like with the spire on top (before the Angel was placed):

While we waited a kind lady offered our kids otter pops. Thank you kind stranger for sharing your otter pops with us! It now dawns on me that I was a perfect target for a baddie of some sort- accepting free otter pops from strangers without thinking because we're in front of a religious building... Anywho, poor Shannon had to take off for an eye appointment before they raised the Angel. We swapped cars so her kids could stay (I still don't have a minivan). About 10 minutes after she left two guys went up in a bucket and started working on the tip of the spire. 30 minutes or so after that, they lowered one of the cranes and hooked up the statue and began to raise the Angel.

There were news choppers flying around getting photos and such, and by noon, the Angel was in place on the top of the spire. People started clapping. It was such a neat opportunity. Have I mentioned how I'm really grateful to Shannon for calling me?

The Looks of Brooke

Brooke always gets pudding all over her mouth. It looked so funny, I wanted to get a picture of her before we wiped it off. Here is what I got.

Swimsuits

Today I bought my first 2 piece swimsuit! I love it! The bottom covers my butt and the top is cute and long enough that when I raise my arms you don’t seem my gut.

MarKay had posted about Lime Ricki Modest Swimwear last month and I’d looked at their website. I really like to “try before I buy” so I got brave and emailed the SLC lady and requested an appointment to try on the merchandise. I invited some friends and one of them came with me (I’m always braver with a buddy). We had a nice visit on the ride to the East side and then we both tried on a ton of tops, chose the one we wanted and headed home.

I’m thankful to J for taking my kids so I didn’t have to panic that they were destroying the lady’s inventory or her scrapbook room where I tried on the suits (K got the bathroom). I owe her big time – and she’d better collect.

Quote I Found at Red Robin

I found this quote on a poster at Red Robin and I liked it enough to write it down on our styrofoam box and bring it home to blog about:

"Gather up as many good experiences as possible. It increases your chances of being a pleasant old person."

Sailing On The Friendship

In no particular order (seriously, so don't get all offended by your number!!!):

Friendship 1: I met you in the Mother’s Room while we were nursing our babies. You had twins and I had a fussy baby (my first), so that gave us plenty of time to talk and get started knowing each other. I’m thankful for our friendship. We may not talk as often as we used to, but at least we have blog stalking to keep us connected!

Friendship 2: We were on the Enrichment Committee together. You seemed to know and be friends with everyone. I envied you. I wasn’t even sure how to say your name – I just mumbled or said it really fast hoping nobody would notice. Then our hubbies were called to teach Primary together. We had a BBQ with the kids and found that we were expecting our second kids at the same time. Friendship grew out of that association. We may not hit Vegas as often, but we still have Tucanos…

Friendships 3, 4 & 5: You were my Sophomore roommates at Ricks and after. You are my sisters forever. We may be in different places, but you are always in my thoughts. In fact, I’m thinking it’s time for a reunion!

Friendship 5: You were a friendly person in the Relief Society presidency. I thought you would be cool friend, but I was too shy to get to know you. Plus, I figured you already had a best friend in the neighborhood. I have since learned that both of you could be my friend independently of each other. And that your really are a cool friend.

Friendship 6: Met you in the hallway at Church. We have girls 6 months apart and we sort of visited and chased them around. I didn’t know your name and was too embarrassed to ask you what it was. I remembered your daughter’s though – it is the same as my little sister’s. Then you were called to be my Cub Scout partner and I was excited and relieved because I already sort of knew you (and now I knew your name…). We may not be in the same ward anymore, but at least we still have soccer practices, book group and playdates!

Friendship 7: You decided to move. You used Jason to sell your house. It took a year all said and done, but in the end we became great friends. Your decision to sell was an answer to my prayers – not for the commission’s sake, but for a friend.

Friendship 8: I can’t remember how we met. Soccer? Book Group? Because our boys were in preschool together? However it was doesn’t matter – it just matters that we did! We share so many sames and we can listen to each other shed a burden. I thank you for that. I’m always in awe of what you accomplish – especially when you think you can’t do something. You go above and beyond with your calling and your business. My kids enjoy all three of your kids (and so do I).

Friendship 9: You may be new to my circle of trust, but you are like an old friend. I’ve enjoyed getting to know you these past few months. I’m glad I got brave and started to talk to you at soccer practice (thank you Ellie for wanting to keep playing. I owe you!!) Even though you look a little like your sister, I’ve never found myself comparing you to her.

Friendships 10, 11 & 12: Thanks for letting me tag along. We’ve bowled, gone to hockey games (and Albertos after) and played strategy games into the early (5 a.m.ish) hours of the morning. We had deep and ridiculous conversations and I’m thankful for our time together.
Friendship 13: Reams. Roxanne. Frontier Pies. Late night phone calls and your guitar.

Friendship 14: The Murdock Group. Seattle. Portland. Hawaii. I miss you!

There are so many others who have touched my life and others that I’m just getting to know. Be patient, it may take me a while, but we’ll get there too!

Cousin Reunion

My mom has had my niece and nephew for the week as their mom gets a little rest and relaxation before the twins are born. We've had the opportunity to spend time together since they are close by. Tuesday my sister Alyica took Abby and Naomi to a pottery painting place, while we spent time with Sam. It was fun. He's a crack up!
Yesterday, Momtook all the grandkids (except little Charlotte) & me to the Museum of Ancient Life (or as we call it, The Dinosaur Museum!) We spent about 3 hours looking at everything and playing in the sand and water. These cousins sure love each other! We can't to meet the new ones on Monday!

Thanks for the Memories

Thanks to the internet and especially YouTube, I am able to relive my past. I have been on looking for toys and videos from my childhood and youth that made me happy.

So far I have been able to find things I used to watch while we lived in England. It has been a laugh to see some of the things that I loved in the late 80s and early 90s.

Some of the guys I thought were cute and the songs that made my heart beat fast…sooooo corny!

Examples:

Kylie Minogue & Jason Donovan - Especially For You

The Singing Corner on Going Live: These guys cracked me up!!! Still do!
